He is the recipient of several accolades, including nominations for two Filmfare Awards. Malhotra appeared in Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list from 2016 to 2018.
Malhotra began his career as a fashion model but left it to pursue acting, working as an assistant director to Karan Johar in My Name Is Khan (2010). He made his acting debut with Johar's teen film Student of the Year (2012), a commercial success that earned him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Following this, he achieved critical and commercial success in romantic comedy Hasee Toh Phasee (2014), thriller Ek Villain (2014), and family drama Kapoor & Sons (2016). This early success was followed by a career downturn and setback.
Malhotra then received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Vikram Batra in the war film Shershaah (2021), which also earned him nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. This was followed by three poorly received films. He has since expanded to web with Indian Police Force (2024) and had moderate success with the romantic comedy Param Sundari (2025).
Apart from acting, Malhotra is a brand ambassador for several products. He is married to actress Kiara Advani, with whom he has a daughter.
